Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1982
What is your primary product or service?
Entertainment Attorney concentrating in negotiating and drafting contracts primarily in the music, TV and film industries, as well as handling intellectual property matters including copyrights and trademarks. I also am involved in Internet law including software development and licensing agreements.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was originally in a touring and recording rock band in the 1970s and was the guy who dealt with the attorneys, managers, etc. When the band split up in '78, I decided to stay in "the biz", got my law degree in '82 and have been practicing entertainment law since then.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There are only a handful of "real" entertainment attorneys in NJ and I'm one of them. Most of the entertainment firms in NYC and LA charge twice what I do, since I work from a home office and have literally no overhead.
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept checks, Visa, MasterCard and American Express and, of course, cash!
Which areas do you service?
Although I represent many clients located here in NJ, I have clients throughout the US as well as in Europe. I'm also involved with many international contractual transactions such as overseas record and film licensing deals, etc.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I do.
What are your hours of operation?
Since I work from a home office, I'm literally available at any time - showbiz is definitely not a 9-5 Mon-Fri industry!
